As we move deeper into planning for the Atlantic Expeditor, we are beginning to narrow our focus on the 5 key environmental issues that we want to document. Because the expedition will cover over 3300 miles and a wide ranging set of ecco systems, we have identified the following 4 species that are under very significant stress along the Atlantic Coast:
Wildlife:
- Seals
- Sea Lions
- Sea Turtles
- Whales
Our 5th issue is simply termed 'Man Made'. In the news these days are more and more reports about the affects of the giant Plastic Dump in the Pacific Ocean and the affect it is having on wildlife. The recent discovery of baby Albatross chicks with bellies full of garbage is just so disheartening. Because of this, we will be paying close attention to issues along the coast that are directly attributable to Man.
As part of our relationship with the Wilderness Classroom we will be working to highlight these and other issues with the students that are following along with our journey. If you have specific knowledge of wildlife that should be highlighted or issues of concern along the coast, we would greatly appreciate your contacting us so that we can discuss the specifics in detail.
