I was at an event tonight sponsored by the Lighthouse Organization, and the discussion turned to how we could help create awareness of coastal and environmental issues, with children that are visually impaired.  Current estimates place the number of such children between 29,000 and 40,000, which represents a significant number of children.  As many of you know, the upcoming Atlantic expedition, will in large part be about working with elementary age children on just such an issue.  I must admit, that up until now, I had not thought about the visually impaired and how we might interact with that community.

I think that working with this community of children would be a tremendous opportunity for both myself and the One Ocean Project. Over the next several weeks I will begin discussions with The Lighthouse and other groups to see if we can define ways in which this group of children can be engaged in the upcoming expedition.
